THE RIGHT WAY TO DO A CLAY MASK

YES! There is actually a right way to do a clay mask! They’re a classic, we all love them! BUT, most people are doing them incorrectly!

This is one of the biggest mistakes that I see most often! I’ll be scrolling through Instagram and all of a sudden a COMPLETELY DRY clay mask! And this, is where most people go wrong.

SO, what’s wrong with a fully dry clay mask?? Well my friends, there are 3 phases of a clay mask.

Phase one: The damp phase. This is where your skin starts to drink up the minerals from the mask, benefitting your skin.

Phase two: The start of the dry phase. This is where the mask starts to exercise your capillaries and stimulates blood flow as the mask cools and contracts.

Phase three (and this is the phase where most people go wrong): The dry phase. In this phase the mask actually starts to draw moisture OUT of your skin. It can cause dehydration and even irritation. Not only will your skin feel more dry, but it can even feel tight and itchy! (yikes)

Usually at this point people start to lather on their favorite moisturizer to save their skin but really you just end up smothering your freshly cleaned skin which can potentially lead to a breakout which none of us want.

SO next time you use a clay mask, remember these phases and do yourself a favor. Always rinse when it’s ALMOST dry, but not completely and let me know below if you already did them right or if this is all new to you!
